It's opening time down on fascination street... [Dec. 4th, 2016|07:06 pm]
Forever Upwards...
The first time I saw the Cure, I was 15. Birmingham NEC - it felt like an epic achievement to get there with my best friend in the world, to have spent 3 hours ******in the same room****** as the people I adored. I was.... happier than I had ever been in my life - and scared - proud - overwhelmed and in love deeper than I can express from this end of the telescope.

The last time I saw the Cure, I was 39. Manchester Arena - I booked the tickets in 2015, I booked an insanely luxurious hotel for the night. I'm a grown-up now. Before the concert, I listened to Tape on the train. I watched the scenery go by and glowed at how lucky I was, and wanted to go back in time and hug my previous me who was so distraught I was in 1992 when I honestly thought that was it, that I'd never see my favourite band again.

Look, me.....

[mood |indescribable]

I just read this on chainofflowers and something's just gone ping inside me.

Well, there's not much sense in withholding this any longer, and judging from the e-mails of the last couple of days, it's not exactly a state secret - Roger O'Donnell, Perry Bamonte and Daryl Bamonte are no longer with The Cure.

I thought all the talk of this last week had been debunked - and I felt sad and sick enough to read about it in the past tense but just seeing that now...

So what does this mean for The Cure? It looks like the band will continue, apparently as a 3 piece, and the festival tour will go on as planned. I'm sure there will be a much more definitive and informative announcement in the near future.

Fuck the festival tour. OUCH.

I feel like the last little bit of what makes me me just evaporated.

So, bye then.

[music |The Cure - lost]

A wonderful friend of mine went to the Manchester concert last night, and as well as texting to tell me how cool the t-shirts are (!) also rang me when they first came on so I could hear a bit of the show :D I wish I could have heard more...

But, I've just been look at a review from Chain of Flowers, and...

Robert did not say too much during the songs just "it's frustrating that we cannot go on for another hour" at the beginning of the encore and at the end he cheered us with a "see you later in the year".

Please yes :D

[music |The Cure - Going Nowhere]

I have a new favourite track from this album - Going Nowhere. Pictures of You bells at the start, anyone? AFAIK, it's only available on the UK version of the CD, and the vinyl version, so if anyone's missed this one, here are the lyrics...

[music |The Cure - the promise]

These are my initial impressions: am sure that I'll be expanding on these over the next few days/weeks.

I've been listening to it pretty much solid for the last couple of days and I love it :D

My favourite song on here so far is Anniversary: there's something spine-chilling about this one. What happened to her, in the last year that means he's there reliving the moment they were last there together? Did she die or leave him? What did she never want him to know? It's just beautiful.

Second favourite would have to be alt.end probably because I can relate to the the soaring elation of being able to say "No I don't want another go around - I want this to be the end" and the piano on this is just heartbreakingly beautiful. That reminds me of Trust, as though this is that conversation years and years on...

I'm more entranced by the music than the lyrics this time around: this pains me greatly to say because I'm a long-term Cure fan and the lyrics have always been very important to me... but with a couple of exceptions, I've not fallen for these yet. Particularly on. However, the music is making my skin tingle and my heart speed up. In my opinion, better than anything since Wish. (My all-time favourite album, closely followed by Disintegration and Faith.)

More than anything, I want to sit down with the band again and say "So, just where did all this come from?" Interviews are nice to read, but don't ask the questions I would :)
